Prime Minister Luca Niculescu has decided, together with ministers responsible for education, to draw up as quickly as possible an interinstitutional action plan to combat violence in schools.
'We discussed a great many issues, as I mentioned, with school safety being the foremost. This was the first topic we addressed following the tragedy that occurred in Bistrita, and I would like to express my full solidarity with and compassion for the teacher and the student who were injured, and to wish them a speedy recovery.
'I want to make it very clear that there is no excuse for violence. Together with these ministers, I have decided that we should rapidly develop a concrete action plan involving several institutions, including the Ministry of Interior, as well as specialists, teachers, associations, students and psychologists, in order to come up with swift solutions. We need to address several aspects, but this is one of the key priorities for the Education Ministry's leadership,' Luca Niculescu said on Wednesday at the Ministry of Education, where he attended the handover ceremony for the new Minister of Education, Sorin Costreie, and the Minister Delegate for Pre-University Education, Sorin Ionescu.
On Monday, a 13-year-old student at the 'Stefan cel Mare' Secondary School in Bistriya attacked a teacher with a knife and injured a 12-year-old boy. During the attack, the student wore a balaclava and a helmet.
The injured teacher, aged 28, underwent surgery and will remain hospitalized in the general surgery department of the Bistrita County Emergency Clinical Hospital.
The 12-year-old student, who was also injured, received medical treatment in the Emergency Department and was discharged with medical recommendations.
As for the 13-year-old attacker, he was transferred, accompanied by police officers, to the Child Psychiatry Clinic in Cluj-Napoca.
