Beer producers have invested, over the past 20 years, more than 2 billion euros in Romania, they want to go further, but they need predictability, the president of the Romanian Brewers' Association, Mihai Voicu, told Monday's conference ''20 Facts about Beer''.

The event marks 20 years of activity of the Romanian Brewers' Association.

"Beer is more than a cultural symbol, it is an industry, an economic engine, it is a commitment to the community and, in these 20 years, brewers have invested more than 2 billion euros and this must continue. It must continue because we have managed to produce more than 97% of the beer consumed in Romania. This means added value and I would like that in the next 20 years we will be able to consume the same beer brands that are dear to us, also produced in Romania. For this we need stability, we need a stable, predictable economic milieu, with clear policies, so that what we have built so far can go further. At the same time, we want to send a clear message: that we, the Beer Association, are here, we are united, we are convinced to go further, to invest, but at the same time we need support, in the sense that we don't want preferential treatment, but we need predictability," said Voicu.

He emphasized that, legally, the Romanian Brewers' Association was established in 2004.

"It is a great joy to be here at the 20th anniversary. It is 20 years in which the industry has evolved, has invested, we have grown together and we have become a strong voice in the Romanian economy. We were established in 2004, legally (...). It was the year in which Rapid I think tried to beat Dinamo for the title. (...) Why do I make the connection with football? Because beer is a social phenomenon. Beer connects, it is about community and it keeps us together," added Mihai Voicu, who is also the general director of Bergenbier.
