Residents displaced by the explosion in a residential block in Bucharest's Rahova neighbourhood will be moved from hotels to apartments starting Monday, with all costs covered by Bucharest City Hall, interim mayor Stelian Bujduveanu announced on Saturday.

Bujduveanu confirmed that those affected are currently housed in hotels over the weekend and assured that no one will be left without shelter. He added that discussions are underway with the national government to support longer-term solutions.

'Regardless of the situation, these people will not be left on the streets,' he told the press, adding that decisions about the future of the damaged building, whether to reinforce or rebuild, will be made based on expert evaluations still in progress.

Authorities have allowed residents from unaffected sections of the building to briefly return home, accompanied by police, to retrieve important documents and personal items. However, access remains strictly prohibited to the stairwell where the explosion occurred due to the imminent risk of collapse.

Bucharest City Hall has already begun issuing new identity cards for those who lost their documents in the blast.
