President Nicusor Dan called on Friday evening for all those involved to take responsibility.

"The explosion in a block of flats on Calea Rahovei in Bucharest is a devastating tragedy that should not have happened. My thoughts go out to the wounded, the bereaved families and all those who are now going through terrible times. It is outrageous and unacceptable that, in Romania in 2025, the safety of citizens is put at risk due to negligence or irresponsible decisions," the head of state wrote on his Facebook account.

He called for "all those involved to take responsibility, regardless of whether we are talking about public institutions or private companies."

"Those who knew and did not act, those who, through inaction or negligence, allowed this chain of mistakes to culminate in death and destruction, must answer. I have asked the responsible institutions to communicate all relevant data as they obtain it. We cannot wait years for an investigation that ends in oblivion. Romanian citizens are waiting for the truth and concrete actions," the president pointed out.

According to him, "preliminary data already indicate that this tragedy could have been prevented."

"That is precisely why there is no room for sterile explanations or shifting responsibility. Checking gas installations, power plants and equipment is not a bureaucratic act. It is a legal obligation and makes the difference between life and death," the president also wrote on his social media page.
