Cooperation in the areas of energy, agriculture, tourism, new technologies and digitalisation are the main points of interest as investment opportunities for Romania and Egypt is the conclusion of a meeting on Tuesday of Chairman of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) Iuliu Stocklosa and Romanian ambassador to Egypt Olivia Toderean.

"We strongly believe that the economic potential of our countries is greater than the current state of trade and bilateral economic cooperation. We believe that a better understanding of the potential of the two economies is necessary for the business community, and CCIB can play an important role both in disseminating the business opportunities offered by the Egyptian market among our members, and in transmitting information about the Romanian offer, especially of the Bucharest business community to potential partners in Egypt," Stocklosa is quoted as saying in a CCIB press statement, agerpres reports.

In her turn, Toderean said that Egypt is at a time of reform and that it is an increasingly attractive destination for direct investment.

"In the relationship with Romania, emphasis is placed on energy cooperation, agriculture and technological innovations in agriculture, food products, tourism, new technologies and digitalisation," Toderean said.

According to official data, trade between Romania and Egypt in 2024 stood at USD 1.140 billion, up 3.42% from 2023, of which imports of USD 642.05 million (+23.20%) and exports of USD 498.88 million (-14.30%).

At the end of 2024, Romania had a trade deficit with Egypt of USD 143.17 million, which went down to USD 72.14 million in the first five months of 2025.
