The interim mayor of Bucharest, Stelian Bujduveanu, paid a visit to Madrid, where he discussed with mayor Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida solutions for mobility and sustainability in the urban environment.
"Today I had a substantial working meeting with Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid, in which we discussed the directions that transformed the capital of Spain into a European model of urban coherence, mobility and sustainability. Also today, we agreed to renew the cooperation agreement between Bucharest and Madrid. The discussion provided the framework to connect Madrid's experience with Bucharest's objectives - a city that assumes a modern, predictable and quality-of-life-oriented evolution", Bujduveanu wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
One of the topics addressed during the visit is how the "Madrid 360" strategy manages to integrate mobility, air quality and urban development.
"It is an example of strategic architecture from which Bucharest can extract clear models for the PUG and for urban mobility management", Bujduveanu stated.
The mayor mentioned that Madrid operates "one of the best coordinated" green-blue infrastructure systems. Thus, the discussions in Madrid aimed at: expanding green spaces, urban water management solutions, adapting the city to climate change.
At the end of the day, a discussion is scheduled with the general director of the Metropolitan Mobility Consortium, about: integration of transport networks, metropolitan coordination, efficient operating models that can inspire the reorganization of Bucharest-Ilfov mobility.
"It is a professional dialogue, with concrete results and clear targets: a connected, efficient and well-structured Bucharest, built through collaboration with the most solid European models," the interim mayor also wrote
