The interim mayor of Bucharest, Stelian Bujduveanu, announced measures to streamline traffic, once school starts.
"I want traffic in Bucharest to be as well organized as possible once school starts. That is why I had a working meeting with the Bucharest Prefecture, the Traffic Police, the Romanian Police, the Local Police and the local police departments to establish the necessary measures so that traffic in Bucharest is as fluid as possible once school starts," the interim mayor said on his Facebook account on Thursday.
Based on the decisions taken, all the Local Police and Police departments will be mobilized to monitor intersections and areas around schools.
In the areas where work is being carried out, parking lots will be temporarily closed and lanes will be cleared to ensure traffic flow.
"The work will be expedited and, where possible, closed before the start of the school year. On the central ring road, to streamline traffic, lanes with mandatory left or right turns will be created at busy intersections. We will permanently identify and monitor the areas and intersections where traffic jams occur, so that teams can intervene quickly. The purpose of these measures is to support parents, students and all Bucharest residents who are faced with the intense traffic specific to the first days of school," Bujduveanu said.
