The Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, received the Harvard Kennedy School Emerging Global Leader Award 2025, an award given annually to a graduate under 40 of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, for outstanding merit in public service.
"I am particularly honored to receive the Harvard Kennedy School Emerging Global Leader Award 2025. This award recognizes each year a graduate under 40 of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, for outstanding merits in public service. I am the first Romanian to receive this distinction, a tradition of the university since 2001. I have always proudly represented Romania and I knew that we are no less, as representatives of our country, than the best of the best students from around the world, gathered at Harvard," Burduja wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday.
According to him, the Council awarded him this award for the results achieved in Romania as Minister of Energy and as Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, as well as for his previous work in Washington, as a World Bank expert.
"I am grateful to my colleagues, professors and the Harvard community for the nomination and trust, for the benchmarks of leadership, vision and dedication for the public good. Special thanks to my former colleague, a special Romanian, Stoica Cristinel Popa. I thank all those who have been with me all these years, in good times and bad, but also to the teachers and the Romanian school, in equal measure. This distinction honors me and forces me to move forward, convinced that we are on the right track, even if sometimes the recognition of the results comes first from far away from the country. After all, work and sacrifices are not about laurels, but about making things better for our fellow human beings," said Burduja.
