Car trade up 6pct in January 2025 against january 2024

Wholesale and retail trade and repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and motorcycles, increased by 6% in January 2025, as gross series, compared to the same month last year, and by 1.4%, as an adjusted series, depending on the number of business days and seasonality, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the same source, in the reference interval, increases in turnover were recorded, as gross series, in: trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (+10.8%), maintenance and repair activities of motor vehicles (+7.4%), trade in motor vehicles (+7.3%) and trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+2.6%).

In January 2025, the volume of turnover in trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased, compared to December 2024, as a gross series, by 10.1%, and as series adjusted for the number of business days and seasonality increased by 4.2%.

The total volume of turnover in wholesale and retail trade and repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and motorcycles saw a decrease of 10.1%, as gross series, in January 2025, compared to the previous month, as a result of the decreases recorded in trade in motor vehicles (-17.4%) and in trade in motorcycles, related parts and accessories; maintenance and repair of motorcycles (-6%). Increases were also recorded in: trade in parts and accessories for motor vehicles (+4.1%) and maintenance and repair activities of motor vehicles (+1.8%).

The INS specifies that net turnover (excluding VAT) is calculated by adding up invoiced income resulting from sales of goods, sales of merchandise, execution of works and provision of services, less rebates, discounts and other reductions granted to customers. Not included in turnover are: the value of packaging returned after delivery; excise duties; subsidies received from public authorities or EU institutions; sale of own land and fixed assets; rebates, discounts and other reductions granted to customers.
