Romanian tennis player Carmen Andreea Herea achieved a prestigious victory over American Caroline Dolehide, world no. 85, whom he defeated, 6-3, 6-7 (1/7), 6-2, on Wednesday, in the first round of the ITF tournament in Tyler (Texas), equipped with total prizes worth 100,000 US dollars.
Herea (19 years old), ranked 858th in the world, prevailed after two hours and 27 minutes against the 2nd seeded.
The Romanian, who came from the qualifiers, achieved the most important victory of her career, against an opponent who has played two finals on the WTA circuit, in Guadalajara (WTA 1,000), in 202,3 and in Guangzhou (WTA 250), in 2024.
In the round of 16 at Tyler, Herea will face another American player, Kayla Day (26 years old, 275 WTA).
Herea also played in the doubles event, alongside Ukrainian Anita Sahdieva, the two being defeated in the first round by the 1st seeded, Maria Kozireva (Russia)/Irina Shimanovici (Belarus), with 6-2, 6-4.
