An additional variant of transporting the goods arriving in Poti is being taken into account, with maritime ships in the Sulina Commercial Port and their transshipment on river barges destined for Danube ports in the countries located in the basin of this important European river, stated Iuliu Stocklosa, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the City of Bucharest (CCIB).
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, Iuliu Stocklosa, the president of the CCIB, paid a working visit to the Embassy of Georgia and had talks with Tamar Beruchashvili, the ambassador of this country in Romania.
"We are happy with the news of the resumption of the transport of goods by ferry between Poti and Constanta, and in the perspective of increasing the volume of transported goods, we want to present you a project that could, in our opinion, facilitate transport flows, especially in relation to the states located on the bank of the Danube, as it is known that water transport is the most economical. We are considering an additional option of transporting the goods arriving in Poti by sea vessels in the Sulina Commercial Port and transshipping them on river barges destined for Danube ports in the basin of this important European river, or through the existing system of canals to the West of the continent," declared Iuliu Stocklosa, in the press release. He presented to the hosts the Sulina Commercial Port Project with the current and perspective facilities.
According to the cited source, the head of the Georgian diplomatic mission was accompanied to the meeting by David Chachava, advisor, and David Koridze, executive director of the Georgia-Romania Chamber of Commerce, and the CCIB president by Mircea Toader, head of the international relations service.
"The head of the Georgian diplomatic mission in Romania made a presentation of the embassy's activity for the promotion of trade exchanges and bilateral economic cooperation, emphasizing in particular the importance of resuming the Poti-Constanta-Poti ferry races with a weekly frequency, in the current context in which the sea was sailing Black is not among the safest, with influences on transport costs, including insurance, allowing even in these less favorable conditions, the intensification of goods deliveries both between the two countries and between the states of Asia, Central Asia and those of Europe," the press release informs.
After 2022, when the volume of bilateral trade was a record of 332 million euros (297 million euros export and 35 million euros import), in 2023 there was a reduction in bilateral trade in all its components, a total volume of minus 37%, reaching to 207 million euros, export minus 37% (188 million euros), import minus 44% (19 million euros).
In the first quarter of this year, there was a revival of bilateral trade, which reached 66 million euros (plus 17% compared to the similar period in 2023), an increase due exclusively to imports from this country, which increased in the analyzed period by more than 6 times, reaching 17 million euros, while the export with 49 million euros decreased by 9%, the trade balance still registering a surplus.
