Deposits of non-governmental resident clients increased in September 2025 by 0.3% compared to the previous month, up to the level of 634.775 billion lei, and by 6.7% (-2.9% in real terms) compared to the same period of the previous year, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) informs on Thursday.
Deposits in lei of residents, with a share of 68.2% in total deposits of non-governmental clients, increased by 0.6% compared to August 2025, up to 433.179 billion lei. Compared to September 2024, they increased by 2.9% (-6.4% in real terms).
According to the BNR data, household deposits in lei increased by 0.1% compared to the previous month, up to 252.327 billion lei, and by 5.2% (-4.2% in real terms) compared to the same period of the previous year.
Deposits in lei of other sectors (non-financial corporations and non-monetary financial institutions) increased by 1.4% (up to 180.851 billion lei) compared to the previous month, and decreased by 0.3% (-9.2% in real terms) compared to September 2024.
As for residents' foreign currency deposits, expressed in lei, representing 31.8% of the total volume of non-governmental client deposits, they decreased by 0.3% compared to August 2025, reaching the level of 201.595 billion lei (expressed in euros, they decreased by 0.5%, to 39.675 billion euros). Compared to September 2024, the indicator expressed in lei increased by 15.9% (13.5%, in the case of expressing the indicator in euros).
Household foreign currency deposits, expressed in lei, decreased by 0.5% compared to August 2025, down to 138.714 billion lei (expressed in euros, they decreased by 0.6%, down to 27.300 billion euros). Compared to the same period of 2024, the increase in this indicator expressed in lei was 16% (13.6%, in the case of expressing the indicator in euros).
Foreign currency deposits of other sectors, expressed in lei, remained basically unchanged compared to August 2025, registering a marginal decrease of 0.01%, down to 62.880 billion lei (expressed in euros, they decreased by 0.2%, to 12.375 billion euros). Compared to September 2024, the indicator expressed in lei increased by 15.8% (13.4% in the case of expressing the indicator in euros).
