A global crisis that could also impact Romania is not excluded in the context of the latest series of cyber-attacks, governor of the National Bank of Romania Mugur Isarescu told a conference on cyber-security on Friday.
"Today more than ever cyber-infrastructures need to be protected amid the growing risk of operating in cyber-space. More than 90 pct of the economic and business activities of various organizations heavily depend on IT. The reliability and security of IT equipment are essential for the economic and social life and especially for the functioning of the internal market," Isarescu said.
"Alongside the state authorities, the National Bank of Romania is making efforts to be able to cope with potential cyber-attacks. Our approach is that we need to also develop our internal protection systems, but it is best to work together with the specialized state authorities. These are issues with a growing complexity, and I think no central bank can handle them just on its own," Isarescu said.
