Central bank launches gold coin celebrating 200yrs since the birth of Elena Cuza

As of 21 July 2025, the National Bank of Romania (BNR) will put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, a gold coin to mark 200 years since the birth of Elena Cuza.

The coin has the face value of 100 lei, it is round shaped, measures 21 mm in diameter and weights 6.452 grams, according to a press release of the BNR,

The coin shows the 'Alexandru Ioan Cuza' Palace in Ruginoasa on the observe, the inscription 'ROMANIA' in an arc, the face value '100 LEI', the coat of arms of Romania and the year of issue '2025'.

On the reverse, there is the portrait and name of Elena Cuza, as well as her birth and death years '1825' and '1909'.

The gold coins are housed in transparent plastic capsules and are accompanied by booklets featuring a presentation of the numismatic issue and certificates of authenticity in Romanian, English and French. The certificates of authenticity bear the signatures of the Governor and the Chief Cashier of the National Bank of Romania.

The maximum mintage is 1,000 gold coins.

The selling price for the gold coin, including the booklet and the certificate of authenticity, is lei 5,300.00, VAT excluded.

The gold coins to mark 200 years since the birth of Elena Cuza are legal tender on the territory of Romania.

The coins are put into circulation, for numismatic purposes, through the regional branches of the National Bank of Romania in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Craiova, Iasi and Timisoara.
