The Committee on Culture of the Chamber of Deputies voted in favor, on Tuesday, by majority, of the bill establishing October 29 as the "Queen Marie Day."

On the occasion of "Queen Marie Day," Parliament, the Presidential Administration, the Government, the local public administration authorities, as well as the public institutions under their subordination or coordination, may allocate funds from their own budgets or from other legally obtained sources to organize or support, logistically and/or financially, sports, cultural, artistic, or educational events, or promotional programmes, within the limits of the approved budgets.

On October 29, the public institutions will hoist the national flag in accordance with the Law No. 75/1994 regarding the hoisting of the Romanian flag, perform the national anthem, and use the seals bearing Romania's coat of arms, with the subsequent amendments and additions.

According to an amendment passed by the committee, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company (Societatea Romana de Radiodifuziune) and the Romanian Television Company (Societatea Romana de Televiziune), as public services, may produce, broadcast or rebroadcast editorial content promoting the actions and activities carried out on the occasion of events dedicated to "Queen Marie Day."

"The personality of Queen Marie is overwhelming. (...) Queen Marie showed that she could love Romania and remains an extremely complex and luminous figure in our history, a figure that can only fill us with national pride. She demonstrated clearly and distinctly what it means to truly love Romania and to be close to your people," said National Liberal Party (PNL) deputy Daniel Gheorghe, bringing to mind that October 29 marks the 150th anniversary of Queen Marie's birth.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture.

The bill, initiated by the Alliance for Romanians' Union (AUR) parliamentary group, was adopted by the Senate in October of this year, with the Chamber of Deputies serving as the decision-making chamber.
