Minister-delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba had a meeting with Sylvie Guillaume, European Parliament Vice-President, on Monday in Strasbourg on the sidelines of the official visit carried out by the delegation headed by the Romanian Prime Minister, on which occasion was highlighted the need for better communication with citizens as a priority in defining the future of the EU, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informs in a press release.
According to the MAE, the Romanian official expressed Romania's willingness to contribute to the consolidation of the necessary consensus in the co-decision process with the European Parliament with a view to advancing and finalizing a significant number of legislative files during the Presidency of the Council of the EU.
In this context, the priorities of the Romanian Presidency, as well as issues related to the cooperation with the European Parliament on the current files on the European agenda, were reviewed.
In the run-up to the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament, the two officials highlighted the importance of ensuring better communication with European citizens on the actions and outcomes achieved at EU level, as well as their involvement in the processes aimed at defining the future priorities of the Union, the MAE release shows.
According to the cited source, the minister-delegate reiterated Romania's commitment to working closely with the European Parliament during the six months of the mandate in order to obtain positive and concrete results for the European citizens.

The Minister-delegate for European Affairs also stressed the need to combat the misinformation phenomenon and stated that the Romanian Presidency intends to advance concrete actions at EU level in order to increase the level of information in the population, to consult the credible sources and to educate the media.
