Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu on Saturday stated that there is "direct contact" with the Austrian authorities on the subject of Romania's accession to the Schengen area with the land borders, claiming that in the next period there will be "good news for Romania", Agerpres reports.
"I am in direct contact, the minister of interior is in direct contact, the minister of foreign affairs is in direct contact and we will continue, through the social-democratic family, to put as much pressure as possible to have this decision and to join Schengen this year. I believe that we will have good news for Romania in the next interval. I am also in direct contact with Chancellor Nehammer," said Ciolacu, at the Central Electoral Bureau, when asked about this topic.
Marcel Ciolacu submitted his candidacy, on Saturday, for the position of president of Romania.
