The parliamentary procedures for the election of a new Ombudsman and the appointment of six members of the leadership of the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) and an advisor to the Court of Accounts were postponed on Monday by the joint Permanent Bureaus of Parliament and therefore the joint plenary session that was to take place on Tuesday was also postponed.
The Permanent Bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate met online on Monday and had a single item on the agenda - the postponement of the parliamentary procedures for the appointment to positions at some public institutions and authorities.
Thus, the joint plenary session of Parliament that was to take place on Tuesday, at 1:00 p.m., to vote for a new Ombudsman, the 6 members of the CNCD leadership and an advisor to the Court of Accounts was postponed to another date.
The new Ombudsman was to be elected for a 5-year term, after the term of the current head of this institution, Renate Weber, expired in June 2024.
According to negotiations between the parties of the governing coalition, the position of Ombudsman falls to the USR.
The USR proposed Roxana Rizoiu, a human rights expert, for this position, but the PSD does not agree to support her, because she is a beneficiary of a special pension.
PSD president Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday that the party MPs would not support the USR proposal for the Ombudsman if the nominated person benefits from a special pension. He stated that he does not agree with the name that has been circulating in the last period for the position.
