The president of the Senate, National Liberal Party (PNL) leader Nicolae Ciuca, stated on Tuesday that there is no secret negotiation between the PNL and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) for the creation of an alliance in the 2024 elections, noting that there are discussions between the two parties because they are in government and that "any political option remains open".
He said that at the moment discussions are between the National Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party because the two parties are in government together.
Regarding the possibility of joint elections, Ciuca mentioned that "if the subject of political constructions is open, then each of these work options remains open".
Asked if the PNL leaders at the local level could overcome the existing tensions with the PSD to make this compromise of the joint lists, Nicolae Ciuca said that they can make "a personal sacrifice" for a decision made by the majority in the party.
Also, being asked if it is possible to reach the situation where PSD and PNL have only one candidate for the presidential elections, Ciuca explained: "It is still there, if we are discussing a coherent approach to the entire electoral year, it may reach this point as well".
