Senate Chairman Nicolae Ciuca, the national leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), said on Thursday that he very much wants Romanians overseas to return home to the country, adding that the government's involvement in facilitating the return of Romanians to the country is "absolutely necessary and important."
"I understood that there are many Romanians who have come to Romania to participate in this event and are a consistent part of the preparation and development of all the activities, which give consistency and value all the steps that RePatriot carries out both in the country and abroad. I am very happy and I want to congratulate the 700 laureates of the RePatriot Summit - Top 100 Romanians Everywhere, I understood that about 50% of them came to enjoy this recognition of what they have achieved and the performance that is recognised in the country, as well as abroad and, at the same time, I can express my gratitude for what you are doing, where you have taken with you everything that means Romanian creativity, intelligence, initiative and I am convinced that you think like all of us that it should somehow come on this thread of our identity, to somehow settle at home, here in Romania," Ciuca told a "Top 100 Romanians Everywhere - RePatriot" summit meeting.
He added that Romanians everywhere have to choose between continuing to work where they are and coming back home.
"We very much want you to return home and we are waiting for you to return home."
Ciuca added that the government's involvement in facilitating the return of Romanians to the country is "absolutely necessary and important."
"About what the government should be, the government should not be the one that controls, the government should not be the one that dictates, the one that seems to know everything, but the government should be the partner of all Romanians, the partner of the associative community, the partner of the business community. (...) Those who have started up a business, those who have had the courage to go where they never thought they could go, deserve to be supported, not controlled. It is absolutely necessary that, through everything we do at the level of state bodies, we provide support to all those who have this spirit of initiative, to those who move more freely than the government in the business world, in the world of opportunities and see the potential better than the state does."
The government, said Ciuca, has to ensure credibility and guarantee predictability.
"Romanians abroad expect balance from us, they expect stability from us and they expect predictability from us. That is what we have to do as a government."
Ciuca also mentioned several initiatives and projects for which there is political commitment, including Start-Up Nation 2.
"These initiatives are very good, they somehow bind us, but more than that is needed. We need everything that means our identity, our culture, our tradition, our education. And I believe that all these issues can be fulfilled through the connection between the overseas community and the state bodies, through everything we can do where Romanians have already coalesced - and we have large communities of tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of Romanians - and where the state bodies should take care of all that means the establishment and functioning of schools in which tuition in Romanian is provided to be able to carry on the language, culture and history of Romania and, also, the same thing to happen in the country for the Romanians who choose to return to the country."
Ciuca also said that Romania has changed.
"We, the Romanians in the country, must start from this premise that Romania has changed, Romania has opportunities to change, to modernise, to continue to improve, and for that we need, of course, our potential here, in the country, but everything you have managed to acquire and develop where you have performed and where you have managed to see how things are done helps us a lot," said Ciuca.
