PNL Deputy Chairman, Ciprian Ciucu, Mayor of Sector 6, announced on Tuesday that the coalition agreed not to hold a referendum on the issue of special pensions together with the partial elections for the Capital City Hall.
Ciucu had declared, a day ago, after the CCR decision regarding magistrates' pensions, that a referendum on the elimination of special pensions would be appropriate to be organized together with this year's local by-elections.
At the same time, he says that it would be right for the referendum on Bucharest, initiated by Nicuşor Dan last year, as mayor, to be put into practice before the elections.
"I think it would be right for the referendum on Bucharest, validated last year, initiated by Mr. Nicuşor Dan, then mayor general, to be put into practice before the by-elections. Regardless of what a district mayor or the hypothetical mayor general of the future wants. Now we have a window of opportunity, it is not known who will be mayor general. P.S. We agreed today in the Coalition not to mix things up and not to hold a new referendum related to special pensions, as a solution to unblock the relationship with the CCR. The solution will have to be constitutional and political," Ciucu wrote on Facebook.
On November 24, 2024, Bucharest residents expressed their opinion on three topics proposed by the then mayor, Nicusor Dan. The referendum was validated both in terms of turnout and positive responses to the three questions asked.
Bucharest residents answered three questions: "Do you agree that the distribution between the Bucharest City Hall and the district city halls of income taxes and local taxes and duties collected from Bucharest residents should be approved by the General Council of Bucharest?"; "Do you agree that the General Mayor of Bucharest should issue building permits throughout the administrative territory of the city?"; "Do you agree that the Bucharest City Hall should finance and implement a health education and drug prevention program in all schools in Bucharest?".
