Classes are suspended on Wednesday in Bucharest, in the context of the Code red warning for heavy rain issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).
Thus, all pre-university education institutions in Bucharest - nurseries, kindergartens, schools and high schools - have suspended their classes on Wednesday.
Universities also conveyed that courses on Wednesday will be held online or they will reschedule them at a later date. It is about the University of Bucharest, the University Politehnica of Bucharest , the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" Bucharest, the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest and the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (SNSPA).
A Code red for heavy rain came into effect on Tuesday evening at 21:00, remaining valid until Wednesday at 15:00.
Bucharest's interim mayor Stelian Bujduveanu urged residents to avoid traveling on Wednesday, especially in crowded and flood-prone areas.
"I urge people to avoid leaving their homes during the Code red warning. Please stay away from busy parts of the city and avoid areas known to flood. Their lives and ours are the most important in these moments. We must ensure we get through this period without casualties. (...) Our priority is to reassure Bucharest residents that they are not in danger, that the city will not be blocked, that the usual rush to collect children from school and get them home does not cause chaos," Bujduveanu told at a press conference.
The counties of Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Giurgiu and Ilfov are also under a Code red warning for heavy rain. Schools in these areas have suspended classes as well.
