The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued code yellow warnings for atmospheric instability and heavy torrential rain, valid on Tuesday and Wednesday in several areas.

According to the specialist forecast, a yellow warning for unsettled weather will be in force from 25 August at 16:00 until 26 August at 08:00 in southern Banat, most of Oltenia and Transylvania, followed, particularly overnight, by northern Muntenia, Maramures and the northern half of Moldavia. There will be periods of atmospheric instability, with heavy torrential rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and, in isolated areas, squalls with gusts of 50-70 km/h and small and possibly medium-sized hail (1-3 cm).

Over short periods of time (between one and three hours) and cumulatively, rainfall totals will reach 15-25 l/sq m and, in limited areas, more than 30-50 l/sq m.

A second code yellow warning for atmospheric instability will be in force throughout Wednesday, 26 August, in the northern half of Moldavia and most of the mountainous areas. These regions will see heavy torrential rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and, in isolated areas, squalls with gusts of 50-70 km/h and small and possibly medium-sized hail (1-3 cm). Cumulatively, rainfall totals will reach 15-20 l/sq m and, in isolated areas, exceed 30-40 l/sq m.

Meteorologists said that atmospheric instability will also occur in isolated areas elsewhere in the country.
