Code Yellow warning for scorching heat and thermal discomfort

Fifteen counties in the west and south of the Romania will be under a Code Yellow warning for scorching heat and thermal discomfort on Thursday, according to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).

Thus, between 12:00 and 21:00, in Maramures, Crisana, Banat, Oltenia and the western part of Transylvania, exceptionally high temperatures for this time of year will be recorded, with scorching heat and increased thermal discomfort, Agerpres reports.

Maximum temperatures will range between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius. The temperature-humidity index (THI) will reach or slightly exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

The counties under warning from the meteorologists are: Satu Mare, Maramures, Salaj, Bihor, Cluj, Arad, Timis, Caras-Severin, Alba, Hunedoara, Dolj, Gorj, Valcea, Olt and Mehedinti.

According to the meteorologists, the weather will remain hot in the Capital as well, with temperatures reaching up to 34 degrees Celsius during the day on Thursday.

Thus, on Thursday, during the same time interval, the sky will be clear in Bucharest, and the wind will blow lightly to moderately. The maximum temperature, higher than the previous day, will be between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists say that on Friday, the heatwave, high temperatures and thermal discomfort will expand and intensify across most of the country.
