Social Democratic Party (PSD) senator Robert Cazanciuc, former Minister of Justice, states that the Fundamental Law is a permanent commitment to the values that unite us as a nation - respect for the rule of law, the balance of powers in the state and the protection of human dignity.
"Today, on Romania's Constitution Day, I remind myself of the reason why I chose to serve in the third branch of government, Parliament: I strongly believe in the power of democratic values and in the guarantees that the Constitution offers to all Romanians. For me, the Constitution is not just a legal text - it is the compass by which I guide my public activity and the way in which I understand to respect my fellow citizens. Every day I try to be worthy of the trust of those who elected me and to defend the principles of the rule of law, transparency and balance without which our society cannot advance. The Fundamental Law is a permanent commitment to the values that unite us as a nation - respect for the rule of law, the balance of powers in the state and the protection of human dignity," the former minister wrote on his Facebook account on Monday.
He says that, every day, as a senator, he assumes "the responsibility to defend these principles and to contribute to the consolidation of a parliament that works in the service of citizens and with respect for the letter and spirit of the Constitution".
"In all my years of public activity, in all three branches of state, I have been guided by the belief that democracy lives through the people who defend it every day, through their gestures, through the courage to tell the truth and through the desire to build a better society. I believe in a Romania in which the fundamental law does not remain just a symbol, but becomes a real instrument of protection, equity and dialogue", says Cazanciuc.
Romania's Constitution Day is marked every year on December 8.
