AGERPRES special correspondent Mariana Nica reports: On a day when Americans are on the streets, it is very important to promote Romanian tourism, says the vice-president of the Federation of Hospitality Industry Employers in Romania (FPIOR), Corina Martin, who was present at the "Romania Day on Broadway" in New York.

"For 23 years a portion of Broadway, in the heart of Manhattan and New York, a whole portion has been closed for Romania to promote its traditions, culture, gastronomy, why not music, dances and, of course, history and image as a country that wants to attract American tourists. And that is why the Consulate General of Romania in New York has invited us to the Romanian Federation of Hospitality Industry Employers. Some of our colleagues came here loaded with promotional materials for Romanian tourist destinations, because we want to attract American tourists to festivals like this one, where we have tens of thousands of people for several hours. On a day when Americans are on the streets, as you can see, it is very important to promote Romanian tourism as well," Corina Martin told AGERPRES on Sunday.

In her opinion, Romanian gastronomy is another means "to invite, attract and convince American tourists" to come to Romanian destinations.

"In addition, even the president of our federation launched a special brand here today - "Litalsi - niste mititei," [Romanian mici - little mince meat sausages without skin] how else than in New York. A strong launch. Indeed, it's certain that the mici and the Romanian gastronomy, are in fact another means of inviting, attracting and convincing American tourists to come to Romanian destinations. We hope to return next January, this time at the New York Travel Fair. We have very big plans together with the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism where we, the private part, the federations, the employers, have proposed to the ministry to promote Romania through street billboards or in a very big campaign starting next year. So, let's continue what is happening here today, in a festival where many Americans may hear for the first time what Romania means and discover Romania. And, why not, we should come, continue with the promotion," Martin stressed.

"Romania Day on Broadway" started in 2000, the event being organised in partnership with the Romanian Embassy to the United States of America, the Consulate General of Romania in New York and the Romanian Cultural Institute. The event included an artistic programme, aiming to promote among Americans the most beautiful aspects of Romanian culture, customs, values and traditions.
