Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a topic for the future but a tool of the present with a profound impact on how the performance and transparency of public institutions are assessed, Vice President of the Romanian Court of Accounts Lucian Heius said at the International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI) in Egypt.
'Artificial intelligence is now a present-day instrument with a significant impact on evaluating the performance and transparency of public institutions. In auditing, these technologies can enhance rigour, efficiency and predictive capacity. Adapting to this new context is essential to remain relevant and credible,' Heius said, according to a Romanian Court of Accounts release.
A delegation from the Romanian Court of Accounts, made of Vice President Lucian Heius and Accounts Adviser Ion Calin, is attending the 25th INCOSAI Congress in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from 27 to 31 October.
The event also marks the transfer of the presidency of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) from Brazil's Federal Court of Accounts to Egypt's Accountability State Audit Authority.
The Congress focuses on two major technical themes: the role of supreme audit institutions in evaluating government and central bank activities during financial and economic crises, and the use of AI technologies in auditing processes.
During the event, the Romanian delegation participated in the steering committee meeting of the Association of Francophone Supreme Audit Institutions (AISCCUF), agreeing to strengthen cooperation among member institutions to conduct joint audits on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on SDG 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation. The Court of Accounts also attended the meeting of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions with Jurisdictional Functions (JURISAI) as an observer, supporting JURISAI's initiative to become an associate member of INTOSAI.
Additionally, the Romanian delegation held meetings with representatives from supreme audit institutions in France, Brazil, Israel, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Senegal, Serbia and North Macedonia, aimed at identifying common avenues for cooperation and initiating thematic projects in areas of mutual interest.
