Crevedia LPG station's owners remanded in 24-hour police custody

Ionut Doldurea and Cosmin Stanga, the owners of the company Flagas SRL, which owns the LPG station in Crevedia where explosions occurred on 26 August, were detained on Tuesday evening by the prosecutors of the General Prosecutor's Office, for 24 hours.

"Today, in the file regarding the fire that broke out on 26 August 2023 following some explosions that took place in the locality of Crevedia, the Dambovita County, the case prosecutor from the Forensic Criminal Investigation Section ordered the continuation of the criminal investigation and the detention of two defendants, administrators of a commercial company, under the aspect of committing the crime of culpable destruction which resulted in a disaster, pursuant to Article 255 paragraph 1 and 2 of the Criminal Code," announced the General Prosecutor's Office, agerpres reports.

Also, the prosecutors charged the company Flagas SRL for committing the crime of culpable destruction which resulted in a disaster.

"In the period 30 September 2020 - 26 August 2023, in carrying out the object of activity and in its interest, as a result of the policy promoted by the decision-making factors in its management structure, respectively the two previously mentioned defendants, the commercial company operated in the manner systematically through the repeated violation of the legal provisions regarding the performance of LPG fuel supply, transport, transshipment and storage operations at the unauthorized work point located on the Bucharest-Targoviste road, in Crevedia commune, Dambovita County. This fact created the conditions for the outbreak, on 26 August 2023, at around 18:40, of a fire followed by several explosions, resulting from this triggering factor, which led to the death of 5 people up to this moment (the last one dying today, Tuesday) and the bodily injury of 54 people, as well as the destruction and degradation of some immovable and mobile assets, as well as some works, equipment, installations or their components, consequences that the management factors within it they did not provide for them, although they should and could have provided for them," claims the Prosecutor's Office.

The investigators announce that they have carried out four searches (at the headquarters of two companies and the residences of two persons), as a result of these procedural activities, several records, documents and storage media have been seized that will be used during the criminal investigation.

Ionut Doldurea and Cosmin Stanga were brought under police escort to the Prosecutor's Office for questioning, after which the prosecutors issued arrest warrants on their behalf for 24 hours.

Ionut Doldurea is the son of the mayor of Caracal, Ion Doldurea, suspended from the Social Democratic Party (ruling PSD).

Doldurea and Stanga are the shareholders of the company Flagas SRL, which owns the LPG station in Crevedia, where explosions occurred last week, resulting in five deaths and approximately 50 injured people, including many firefighters. Also, dozens of houses near the LPG station were destroyed. The tragedy occurred while a gas transfer was being carried out between two tankers.

The LPG station in Crevedia has been operating since July 2020 without a fire safety permit.
