A progressive increase in royalties to 15-20%, establishing a predictable and fair framework for all actors involved and strict monitoring of the way these funds are collected and directed would be a gesture of economic dignity, not an electoral whim, is the opinion of the president of the National Confederation for Women's Entrepreneurship (CONAF), Cristina Chiriac, agerpres reports.

Asked during an online debate whether increasing royalties on exploited resources would contribute to reducing the budget deficit, Cristina Chiriac replied: "Yes, but only if we are willing, finally, to call things by their proper names. Because the truth is that Romania does not lack resources, but political courage and economic vision."

"The fact that today we are still talking about 3% or 5% instead of 15% or 20%, as is natural in economies like the UK or Norway, shows how far we are from governance anchored in the public interest. A progressive increase in royalties to 15-20%, the establishment of a predictable and fair framework for all actors involved and strict monitoring of the way these funds are collected and directed would be a gesture of economic dignity, not an electoral whim," she added.

The head of CONAF pointed out that there are several countries that have increased excise taxes and, moreover, have made a series of special tax policies for companies with very high returns, such as companies in the energy sector, especially since it is well known that very high profits are recorded there.

"Romania, on the other hand, still has a problem to solve, namely investments in research, development and profit redistribution. When we no longer tax gross income and only tax dividends, things will change. Romania still has very big steps to take. Indeed, it needs politicians with backbone, but it needs politicians who understand that if you kill the cow that gives you milk every day, one day you might not have anything to put on your children's table, that glass of milk," Chiriac said.

The Coalition for Freedom of Trade and Communication (CLCC) organized, on Wednesday, the 8th professional digital debate of this year, entitled "Measures to reduce the budget deficit. Influence on companies and consumers".

The digital debate analyzed one of the most pressing economic problems of the moment, namely the budget deficit, which continues to represent a significant challenge for Romania's financial stability, and the measures adopted to reduce it generate direct effects on the business environment and on consumers.

The speakers were the president of the National Confederation for Women's Entrepreneurship (CONAF) - Cristina Chiriac, the executive director of the Association of Large Commercial Networks in Romania (AMRCR), George Badescu, and Lucian Barbu, Tax Partner NNDKP - Nestor Nestor Diculescu Kingston Petersen.
