A series of exhibitions dedicated to Queen Maria of Romania, Cecilia Cutescu-Storck, the first woman art teacher in Europe, and one of the most important contemporary photographers in Germany, Sibylle Bergemann, are among the proposals of the new edition of Art Safari, dedicated exclusively to women, opened at the Dacia-Romania Palace, informs Agerpres.

Roman Patapievici came up with the idea of the edition dedicated to women, said Ioana Ciocan, Art Safari CEO and Romania's commissioner at the Venice Art Biennale, at the opening press conference on Thursday.

* "Sibylle Bergemann. Fashion, art, culture - through the lens of a woman," an exhibition organised in partnership with the support of the Institute for International Relations and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania, offers an overview of the entire work of one of the most important contemporary photographers in Germany, Sibylle Bergemann (1941-2010), a legend of contemporary photography.

German Ambassador in Bucharest Peer Gebauer noted at the event the theme of the new edition of Art Safari, which focuses on the works of extraordinary, powerful women who have significantly shaped art and culture.

* "Maria of Romania, queen and artist" is an incursion into the life and art of the sovereign, whose name remained in history not only for her heroic deeds during the Great War, but also for her artistic side, a work that enriches the national heritage.

Passionate all her life for gardens and nature, the Queen painted exclusively flowers - lilies, poppies, irises and water lilies - in a manner specific to the Art Nouveau style, being also attracted by furniture design, part of her creation can be seen in the exhibition, organised in collaboration with the Peles National Museum, the Brukenthal National Museum and the Cotroceni National Museum, as well as with important private collections.

* A separate chapter in this edition is dedicated to the Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, which was founded in Bucharest in 1916 by artists Cecilia Cutescu-Storck, Olga Greceanu and Nina Arbore, under the patronage of Queen Maria.

* "Cecilia Cutescu-Storck. The first woman art teacher in Europe," curated by Ana Maria Maciuca-Pufu, museographer - Pinacoteca of the Bucharest Municipality Museum, presents a reminiscence of the creation of the woman who animated Romanian culture and enriched the artistic life, opened the roads of monumental art and created the most inspired and valuable secular mural paintings of her time.

* "Breasts," brings together a diverse range of representations of breasts in Romanian art, from the 1880s to the present, thus providing a broad perspective on the transformations of this artistic motif in visual culture.

Art Safari, a strategic national cultural project, conducted in partnership with the Bucharest Municipality Museum, has registered about 570,000 visitors in the 14 editions so far.
