The flow of the Danube, at the entrance to the country, has reached 2,000 cubic meters/s these days, less than half of the multi-annual average for July estimated at 5,350 cubic meters/s, according to the forecast of the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA), issued for the period July 4 - 11, 2025, Agerpres reports.

"The flow at the entrance to the country (Baziaş section) will decrease slightly in the first four days, up to the value of 2,000 cubic meters/s, then stationary until the end of the forecast interval (2,000 cubic meters/s), being below the multiannual average of July (5,350 cubic meters/s). Downstream of Portile de Fier, the flows will generally decrease, except for the last days of the forecast interval, when they will be relatively stationary on the Gruia - Calarasi sector," the INHGA forecast states.

Regarding inland rivers, average daily flows will be relatively stationary in the first half of the forecast interval, afterwards they will increase, starting from the west of the country, then on most rivers.

"Throughout the forecast period, runoff on slopes, torrents, streams and increases in levels and flows on some rivers in hilly and mountainous areas are possible, as a result of the forecasted heavy rainfall," hydrologists say.

According to the monthly hydrological bulletin, in July of this year, the hydrological regime will be between 30% and 50% of the multiannual monthly averages, higher (50% - 80%) on the rivers in the Viseu, Iza, Tur, Somesul Mare hydrographic basins, the upper basins of Jiu and Bistrita, respectively lower (below 30%) on the rivers in the Crasna, Barcau, Rm. Sărat, Bârlad hydrographic basins, on the tributaries of the Prut and on the rivers in Dobrogea.

In August 2025, the hydrological regime will be between 30% and 50% of the multiannual monthly averages, higher (50% - 80%) on the rivers in the following hydrographic basins: Viseu, Iza, Tur, Somesul Mare, the upper basins of Jiu and Bistri?a. On the other hand, lower values (below 30%) will be recorded on the rivers in the following hydrographic basins: Rm. Sărat, Bârlad, on the tributaries of the Prut and on the rivers in Dobrogea.

Hydrologists warn that, during July and August, episodic phenomena of significant runoff on slopes, torrents, streams and flash floods are possible during torrential rains.

In September, the hydrological regime will be at values ranging from 30% to 50% of the multiannual monthly averages, higher (between 50% and 80%) on the rivers in the hydrographic basins: Viseu, Iza, and Someşsul Mare, and lower (below 30%) on the Rm. Sărat, Bârlad watercourses, on the tributaries of the Prut and on the rivers in Dobrogea, according to the three-month forecast issued by INHGA.

In the case of the Danube River, at the entrance to the country (on the Bazias section), the maximum flow rate estimated for July is 4,000 cubic meters/s, lower than the multiannual average value of 5,350 cubic meters/s, and the minimum is 2,000 cubic meters/s.

For the month of August, the maximum flow of the Danube is estimated at 2,800 cubic meters/s, while the minimum will be 1,900 cubic meters/s, compared to the multi-annual average of 4,300 cubic meters/s.

According to the specialized forecast, the average for September is 3,800 cubic meters/s, with a maximum flow of the Danube of 2,500 cubic meters/s, respectively a minimum of 1,900 cubic meters/s.

Hydrologists specify that these long-term estimates will be updated by short-term forecasts that will be preceded, in situations where the possibility of exceeding the Defense Quotas is estimated, by hydrological warnings issued based on the situation and the evolution of meteorological factors at that moment.
