The National Directorate of Cyber Security (DNSC) documented, between June 17 and 21, 2024, not fewer than 25 DDoS attacks against websites in Romania, launched by groups of cyber attackers affiliated with Russia, DNSC informs.

The targeted websites belong to some public institutions in Romania, respectively to some private entities from the financial-banking, transport and telecommunications sectors, in this campaign the DNSC website was also attacked.

"The Directorate's team warned the targeted organizations in advance, the attacks being announced in advance on online chat platforms used by the attackers and was in constant contact with them to provide the necessary mitigation support, where appropriate. We note that there were no periods of significant interruptions to the activities of the targeted sites. In some cases, depending on the volume and complexity of the attack, there were short, intermittent periods of service unavailability," states DNSC.

To avoid compromising users' devices and including them in a botnet that launches DDoS attacks, there are the following solutions: use an antivirus application; installing a firewall and configuring it so as to restrict traffic coming to or leaving the device; the implementation of good security practices in order to minimize the access of other people to the information on the device and the management of unwanted traffic.
