"Deasupra capului meu" (Above My Head) documentary film, which explores how a major historical trauma, the Second Vienna Award, can be transformed into art, was premiered in Oradea.
According to a Tarii Crisurilor Museum Oradea - Museum Complex press release issued on Thursday, the premiere took place in the presence of director and producer Tudor Chirila, agerpres reports.
"The film is the newest production of the Oradea-born filmmaker, known for more than 25 years of work in cinema and for his anthropological and historical documentaries. 'Deasupra capului meu' is a meditation on how a major historical trauma, the Second Vienna Award, can be transformed into art. The documentary starts from the Cojocna case, a household split in two when the border was drawn in 1940, and becomes a bridge across time that brings together memory, visual archives and contemporary reflection on identity," the release reads.
Director Tudor Chirila said the film represents "a story caught on the wing and turned into a cinematic work that challenges us to look at the past differently."
The event also included a question-and-answer session in which an audience made up of pupils, teachers and cultural figures discussed topics such as the role of art in society, the complexity of representing collective memory and the challenges of filmmaking in Romania.
Tudor Chirila answered all questions, explaining the artistic decisions in the film, including the use of archival footage. The director announced that he is already working on a new documentary with a related theme, starting from another unusual situation created by the drawing of borders in 1940.
The event was organised by the Tarii Crisurilor Museum Oradea - Museum Complex, in partnership with the Bihor County Council, Oradea City Hall and the Thraex Cultural Association.
