The Minister of National Defence, Mihnea Motoc received on Wednesday the Portugal Ambassador to Romania, Joao-Bernardo Weinstein in a meeting where the discussions aimed at the bilateral cooperation in defence, the Romanian official appreciating the Portuguese specialists' contribution in the training of the Romanian pilots for the F-16 aircraft. According to a press release sent to Agerpres on Wednesday by the National Defence Ministry, during the meeting were approached practical cooperation methods between Romania and Portugal, both on a bilateral level and also within the North-Atlantic Alliance and the European Union.
"The topics regarding the implementation stage of the measures adopted at the NATO Summit in Warsaw and the Global Strategy of the European Union, were also on the discussion's agenda. Minister Mihnea Motoc expressed his appreciation for the contribution of the Portuguese Air Force specialists in the training of the pilots and the technical personnel who will serve the Fighting Falcon F-16 aircraft the Romanian Army is endowed with," the release added. The source mentions that the military bilateral dialogue will continue, in the following period being scheduled an official visit to Romania of the Portuguese Defence Minister, Jose Alberto de Azeredo Lopes.
