The leadership of the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) and members of the Committee on Defence, Public Order and National Security of the Chamber of Deputies had a meeting on Monday to discuss, among other things, the security situation in the extended Black Sea region and the status of military procurement programmes and defence acquisition priorities.

According to a press statement released by MP Mihai Weber, chairman of the Defence Committee, the meeting took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defence, which initiated the dialogue, in the presence of Defence Minister Ionut Mosteanu, Chief of Defence Gheorghita Vlad, as well as representatives of the central departments of the ministry.

The meeting was part of a constant institutional collaboration approach, which reflects the common commitment to strengthening national security, with discussions focusing on a number of topics of strategic interest: the security situation in the wider Black Sea region, the status of military procurement programs and acquisition priorities, the prospects for 2026-2027, institutional efforts on strategic communication and combatting disinformation.

Based on the assessments made a clear message was outlined: the regional context requires speeding up measures for the modernisation and digitalisation of defence capabilities, developing specialised human resources, the support of the national defence industry, the promotion of innovation and expertise in the defence system.

"As chairman of the Committee on Defence, Public Order and National Security of the Chamber of Deputies, I reiterated the importance of maintaining a solid partnership between Parliament and the Ministry of National Defence. In the current geopolitical climate, marked by instability and multiple challenges, cooperation between institutions is essential to protect Romania's strategic interests," Weber is quoted as saying in the statement.
