Acting Defense Minister Radu Miruta stated that representatives of the Sadu Mechanical Plant will begin direct negotiations with US Ballistics, a US company looking to lease facilities there and manufacture a new type of ammunition, thereby creating jobs in the area.

According to a statement by the Save Romania Union (USR), the decision was made on Wednesday morning by the Board of Directors of UM Sadu and was announced by Radu Miruta, the Minister of National Defence, during a joint press conference with Irineu Darau, the Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism.

The two USR ministers visited the Sadu I and II Mechanical Plants in Bumbesti-Jiu, Gorj County, on Wednesday, according to Agerpres.

"Things are happening at Sadu. After years of stagnation, the Board of Directors approved this morning the start of negotiations for a , 1.4 million annual contract, with upfront payment, to establish a new company that will manufacture a new type of ammunition. The project involves a US investor who has already leased the Sadu II site to build an arms manufacturing facility. This major investment will create hundreds of new jobs for the local community," stated Radu Miruta, as quoted in the press release.

In the first stage alone, an additional 150 people could be hired at Sadu, the cited source states.

"The fact that Sadu 2 has been effectively revived within a few months is a very positive sign. Today, the Board of Directors decided to initiate direct negotiations with US Ballistics. In practical terms, this means transforming a site that was previously unused, and indeed unusable, into an active production facility at Sadu 2 in just a few months. Our goal at the Ministry of Economy is to build a truly competitive defense industry. This means the Romanian defense industry must deliver high-volume, high-quality output on schedule. That is the approach we are promoting across every Romarm subsidiary," stated Irineu Darau.

In the same context, the Minister of National Defence reiterated that the Sadu Mechanical Plant has been placed on the SAFE map by a decision of the Supreme Council of National Defence, meaning that ammunition for the entire public order and defence system will be produced there.

In addition to the contracts worth 10.7 million lei currently held by the Sadu Mechanical Plant, the Ministry of National Defence has officially requested a contract worth 27 million lei for the production of ammunition for the Ministry at the Sadu facility, according to the press release.
