Australia is an important partner for Romania in the Indo-Pacific region, Romanian National Defence Minister Ionut Mosteanu conveyed on Monday, following a meeting with Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, who is on an official visit to Romania.
"We share the same values and objectives in respect to maintaining peace, security and a rules-based international order. Through today's dialogue, we reaffirmed our joint commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and identifying new opportunities for collaboration, for the benefit of both countries," the National Defence Minister stated, according to a National Defence Ministry (MApN) release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the quoted source, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence relations and enhancing cooperation between the two states, in the context of current global security challenges.
The two officials highlighted the importance of dialogue between Romania and Australia, partner states that share the same democratic values and commitments to international peace and stability. Topics addressed included cooperation within international missions, as well as prospects for collaboration in the defence industry.
The two officials also agreed to maintain a constant politico-military dialogue and to intensify the exchange of experience between the defence institutions of the two states.
