Minister of National Defence Ionut Mosteanu met on Wednesday with Joachim Sucker, Director of the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR), during which the Framework Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Romania and OCCAR was signed a significant step in enhancing Romania's involvement in European defence programmes, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) announced.
According to a press release released sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday, the agreement allows Romania's defence industry to take part directly in OCCAR programmes for the development, procurement and maintenance of modern military equipment, thereby contributing to the modernisation of the armed forces.
Through this partnership, Romania will benefit from more efficient, transparent and cost-effective procedures for defence acquisitions, the ministry explained.
"The signing of this agreement marks a major step forward in modernising the army, deepening our integration into the European defence system, and supporting the national defence industry. It gives us access to cutting-edge technologies and strengthens cooperation with our European partners," said Defence Minister Ionut Mosteanu.
The two officials also discussed new opportunities for cooperation between the Ministry of National Defence and OCCAR, with Mosteanu emphasising Romania's commitment to active involvement in international initiatives promoting sustainable development and security.
