The Romanian Army is carrying out the most ambitious modernization program in its history, and the increase in the level of allocation for endowment to 2.5% of GDP allows the acceleration of some essential programs to increase the action capacity of the armed forces, the Minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, said on Saturday.

He participated, together with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, on Saturday, in Buzau, at the military and religious ceremony organized on the occasion of the inauguration of the "Air Heroes Gallery" and the Monument to the Paratroopers and Military Paratroopers of the Romanian Army.

"After many decades of peace and tranquility, Europe is, unfortunately, once again facing the harsh reality of war. For more than two and a half years, not far from our borders, Ukraine has been subjected to illegal military aggression and without any justification. The dramatic experience of Ukraine shows us that defense begins, first of all, at home. That is why the Romanian Army is carrying out the most ambitious modernization program in its history. Investments started on the basis of a predictable level of financing set at 2% of GDP produces visible effects. Since last year, the Romanian Government has increased this level to 2.5% of GDP, which allows the acceleration of some essential programs for increasing the action capacity of our Army," said Tilvar.

At the same time, he pointed out that the Ministry of National Defense, with the support of the Government, is determined to think of the most appropriate programs to increase motivation and raise the level of working and living conditions for the most important resource - the human one.

"The Romanian army, which we want to be as capable and strong as possible, needs not only investments in providing it with the latest technology, but also generations of officers, military foremen, non-commissioned officers, grads and professional soldier," Tilvar pointed out.

In context, the minister pointed out the importance of the ceremonies held in Buzau.

"Last week we celebrated the Day of Military Paratroopers. A more suitable context could not be found for the programming of today's events in which we honor the Heroes of the Air by inaugurating two symbolic projects of great significance - the "Gallery of Heroes of the Air" and the Monument to the Paratroopers and Military Paratroopers of Romanian Army. Also, the aviation rally that will take place at the Boboc military airfield will happily complete this day," the minister stated.

At the same time, he emphasized that the city of Buzau has assumed the identity of the city of Romanian military aviation and parachuting, being the traditional home of the training and initiation institutions for military aviators and paratroopers.

"Also here are other flagship structures of the Romanian Army, the 2nd Infantry Division 'Getica', the bearer of the glorious traditions of the 2nd Army, the Military Information Brigade and the 52nd Special Operations Forces Battalion Baneasa Otopeni," Angel Tilvar also said.

Last but not least, he highlighted the good collaboration between the local authorities in Buzau and the commanders of the units within the county.
