Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu said on Saturday that she has always admired everything the US represents and insisted that she "cannot in any way be considered anti-American."

She mentioned in an interview for Digi 24 private television station, that she fully supports Romania's Strategic Partnership with the US.

"At one point, in a highly emotional context, I believe for everyone, not just for me, I wrote some words that were a bit too harsh, even for me. I take responsibility for that. However, that does not mean I can be labeled anti-American. I lived under communism and my father listened to the 'Voice of America' and I grew up with the idea that the Americans would come. I have always admired and continue to admire, everything that the US represents and the US democracy, and now, as a member of Romania's Government, I fully support the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America and the European Union, and under no circumstances can I be considered anti-American," Oana Gheorghiu pointed out.

In her view, US President Donald Trump is an "atypical" politician with whom she "does not resonate at all."

Asked what she really thinks about Donald Trump, Oana Gheorghiu replied: "I believe he is an atypical politician for America, a politician with whom I do not resonate at all, because he does things in a way that seems strange to me, especially looking at America. I hope he does what is necessary for both America and Europe."
