Minister of Development, Public Works and Administration Cseke Attila stated on Wednesday in Harghita county that the Anghel Saligny National Programme will continue, solutions being sought to fund as many investment projects as possible.
Minister Cseke Attila attended the inauguration of DJ 137 county road, which connects Odorheiu Secuiesc and Cristuru Secuiesc, fully rehabilitated through the Anghel Saligny programme.
"County roads were included in the Saligny programme following the methodology we approved in 2021. We believed that it was important for county roads to receive funding through the Anghel Saligny programme and this road (DJ 137) is one of the results of that decision. The programme continues. This year, this month, (...) we will make a payment of 600 million lei for invoices currently at the ministry, and we hope that within the Government, the coalition, we shall find solutions to continue as many investment projects as possible in 2025 as well," Cseke Attila stated.
He mentioned that 35pct of the most advanced projects, in terms of reimbursement rate, are secured with funding through the end of 2025, while solutions are still being sought for the remaining 65pct.
He also referred to investment funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
"This week, the Ministry of Development made significant payments for investments under the PNRR. We plan to continue making payments, hopefully tomorrow, and next week as well. At the government level, investment payments have been prioritized in order to ensure that PNRR projects can be paid. The Development Ministry has an important group of 6,000 investment objectives under the PNRR and we are doing everything possible to secure funding for these as well," Cseke Attila added.
Vice Prime Minister Tanczos Barna also attended the event and tested the bicycle path built as part of the project. He highlighted the importance of the programme, stating that it transforms the life of rural communities and it's essential that the programme be further supported.
He also spoke about the need for predictability in investment programme funding, such as the Anghel Saligny programme.
"Predictability is the most important thing. I said the same in January-February when we were drafting the 2025 budget, and I'm saying it again now. For the second half of the year, and for 2026, 2027 and 2028, we need predictability, we have signed contracts, there are entrepreneurs, business owners and companies that depend on these contracts, there are hundreds of thousands of jobs linked to these programme. We cannot afford to cancel them, that's exactly why, predictably, year after year, we must ensure funding for Anghel Saligny, so that within three years, we can conclude, complete the programme and improve living standards in rural areas," Vice Prime Minister Tanczos Barna concluded.
The inauguration was also attended by the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Chairman Kelemen Hunor, Harghita County Council President Biro Barna Botond, as well as by many others, some of whom chose to test the bicycle path, which, according to County Council representatives, is the first in Harghita to be usable outside urban areas.
DJ 137 county road, which connects Odorheiu Secuiesc and Cristuru Secuiesc, has 21.2 kilometers and is considered one of the most important in the county. It was fully rehabilitated under a project won by the Harghita County Council and funded through the Anghel Saligny Programme. The estimated value of the investment exceeds 190 million lei.
