The film "Yes" by director Nadav Lapid will have its premiere screening in the Capital during the 21st edition of the Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF), taking place in the period 19-28 September, organisers announced in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

Director Nadav Lapid and Shai Goldman, his close collaborator and director of photography of Romanian origin, will be present at the screening.

During the festival, the two filmmakers will host a masterclass on cinematic expression, an event aimed at both industry professonals and film enthusiasts interested in auteur cinema.

"Yes" will be screened as part of a Nadav Lapid Retrospective, alongside other key titles from his filmography such as "Ahed's Knee" and "Synonyms" (Golden Bear - Berlinale 2019). The screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the director and cinematographer.

Nadav Lapid is recognised as one of the most provocative and innovative voices in contemporary cinema. Born in 1975 in Tel Aviv, he is a director and screenwriter known for his poetic, profound and often unsettling style. He studied philosophy at Tel Aviv University, French literature in Paris and film directing at the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School in Jerusalem. He made his feature debut with "Policeman" (2011), which won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Festival, followed by multiple international awards at BAFICI, San Francisco, and others. His film "The Kindergarten Teacher" (2014) was selected for Semaine de la Critique - Cannes and received over 20 awards, later being adapted into an American version. His international breakthrough came with "Synonyms" (2019), a powerful film about identity inspired by his own experience as an immigrant in Paris, awarded the Golden Bear at the Berlinale. For his outstanding contribution to cinema and intercultural dialogue, he was decorated by the French state with the title Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.

The 21st edition of BIFF will feature a selection of international films in national premiere, within the only feature film competition held in Bucharest. The festival includes five sections: feature film competition, short film competition, Panorama, Romanian auteurs, and History & Cinema.

Organised by the Charta Foundation and the Grigore Vasiliu Birlic Cultural Association, under the High Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, BIFF 2025 continues its mission of showcasing the most relevant and bold voices of global cinema to Romanian audiences.
