The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) informed on Friday evening that the MApN teams in the field identified the impact areas resulting from the interception of the drone by an F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force.
Thus, debris from the drone and the intercepting missile were identified in the Padina area, Buzau County, and a crater and debris of an air-to-air missile in the Tataru area, Braila County.
No victims or material damage were recorded.
The perimeters were secured, and the resulting elements were removed for examination, the MApN informed in a press release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the cited source, the case was taken over by the Prosecutor's Office with the Ploiesti Court of Appeal.
On Friday, the MApN radar surveillance system detected, at 9:39, an aerial target that was evolving at a distance of approximately 20 km east of Sulina.
Two Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft of the Italian Air Force from the 57th Air Base Mihail Kogalniceanu and two F-16 fighter aircraft of the Romanian Air Force from the 86th Air Base Borcea, located in the Air Policing Combat Service, took off at 9:48 and 10:56, respectively, to monitor the situation.
At 11:02, one of the two aircraft of the Romanian Air Force engaged the target and shot it down in the area of the Padina locality, in Buzau County.
All necessary safety measures were taken to ensure that the target was engaged exclusively over uninhabited areas, eliminating any risk to the population.
