The head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU), secretary of state Raed Arafat, on Tuesday stated in Constanta that a project worth 45 million euros is being carried out with European funds regarding intervention in the Black Sea in case of emergency situations, which includes, among other things the purchase of a firefighting ship, equipped also to search and rescue people.
The same project includes the purchase of three or four river ships to be used in emergency situations on the Danube.
"The integrated naval project is worth 45 million euros. It includes a big ship and three or four smaller vessels to operate in the Danube Delta area and on the Danube. (...) These are the amounts the project takes into account but, of course, the tender can bring smaller prices, we don't know, but this is the amount that we have now, around 45 million. We will purchase the ships, no doubt about it," said the representative of the DSU, who attended the presentation of the activity report of the "Dobrogea" Inspectorate for Emergency Situations."
He also mentioned that the acquisition of the ships to operate on the sea will be made based on an analysis of experts from the French Navy, who operate in emergency situations in the Marseille area.
"The maritime project, which will help to bring firefighters at sea again, not by using small vessels like the ones operated right now in the Romanian seaside area, but a large rescue ship, equipped to extinguish fire and also for search and rescue missions at sea. The specifications are ready and the tender is about to start, which means that in the next two, three years, we must prepare the Constanta County Inspectorate to operate including on the sea, as it did back in the 1980s (...) We had here a group of experts from the French Navy, who are in charge with search, rescue and firefghting missions in the Marseille area and they made an analysis and a report," Raed Arafat.
According to him, the whole project is about the "completion of a segment that belongs to firefighters," in the context in which the intervention of experts is needed in cases of emergency situations, such as those occurred on board of the cruise ships off the coast, with the project to be finalized in the next two, three years.
The DSU head also said, regarding the equipping of the emergency situations inspectorates that, among other things, there were acquired electric generators, mobile hyperbaric rooms, new trucks.
He specified that until 2020-2021, in the emergency situations field investments will be worth almost 900 million euros.
