Earthquake in Buzau County on Thursday evening

An earthquake occurred on Thursday evening at 22:44 local time in Buzau County, Vrancea Seismic area.

The quake was initially announced to have had 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale, but later it had the magnitude revised by seismologists, increasing it to 4.4 degrees from 4.2, according to information published by the National Institute for Earth Physics Research and Development (INCDFP).

Additionally, the depth at which the earthquake occurred has been revised to 119.4 kilometres, compared to the previously announced depth of 140 kilometres.

The earthquake took place near the following cities: 55 km northwest of Buzau, 60 km southeast of Sfantu Gheorghe, 62 km west of Focsani, 60-63 km east of Brasov, and 73 km northeast of Ploiesti.

Since the beginning of February, Romania has experienced seven earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.4 to 4.4.

The most significant earthquake of 2024, with a magnitude of 5.4, occurred in Buzau County on September 16.
