An exhibition called "The Resurrection of the Lord, the Feast of Immortality to the people, in Romanian postcards" is opening today at the Mihail Sadoveanu Bucharest Metropolitan Library.
The exhibition is said to explore the deep connection between the Romanian Easter traditions and the message of love and salvation of the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, emphasising the importance of this holiday and the way in which Easter wishes were conveyed in the past, through postcards depicting Easter symbols, before the appearance of television and smart phones.
"The exhibition brings to the fore an important part of our traditions related to Easter and the teachings brought by the Resurrection of Our Lord. We use the postcards on display to render not only the beauty of these messages, but also their deep meanings, which speak to us about love, hope and communion," says Ramona Ioana Mezei, manager of the Bucharest Metropolitan Library.
During the second edition of the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to see new valuable, illustrated exhibits, views and postcards, which bring before us images that reflect human brotherhood and compassion, being an invitation to reflect on the love of self and our neighbour, as shown by the Savior through His sacrifice.
"The exhibition helps us better understand the connection between our traditions and the spiritual message of Easter. It is a moment of return to our roots, to those customs that unite us and that emphasise the importance of love and solidarity between people," added Archimandrite Policarp Chitulescu of the Holy Synod Library.
The exhibition is organised by the Bucharest City Hall (PMB), through the Bucharest Metropolitan Library, in partnership with the Holy Synod Library (BSS).
It is open throughout May 28. Exhibits will be mounted both outdoors, on the fence of the Bucharest Metropolitan Library, and indoors, on billboards at the entrance of the Mihail Sadoveanu library and inside the library.
