The minister of economy, digitalisation, entrepreneurship and tourism, Radu Miruta, on Monday informed that any person entering an arms factory or ammunition depot in Romania will need to be authorised at the ministry level, following a check by the classified information office.

"Until the forensic and judicial investigations shed light on the cause of the explosion at the Cugir arms factory, I have ordered two immediate measures today: I have issued an order reintroducing the obligation for any person entering one of the arms factories or ammunition depots in Romania to be authorised at the ministry level, following a check by the classified information office. This obligation existed, but was eliminated in January 2025. I have requested the urgent update of all plans regarding: the security of the objectives (human security guards and video surveillance system); storage spaces; production areas, including the date of the last control and the measures ordered. If there is still any director (I hope not) who believes that a cartridge or firearms factory is run like an ice cream facility, I suggest that he/she takes advantage of the window of opportunity and leave by himself/herself," the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

He underscored that he is waiting for answers about how the explosion at the Cugir factory started and said that the criminal investigation is ongoing, with institutions outside the ministry telling him that it is a matter of days until the conclusions are ready.

A fire, followed by explosions, broke out on the night of Friday to Saturday at one of the two arms factories in the city of Cugir, at an ammunition depot, on an area of 700 sq m.

The minister of economy traveled to Cugir on Saturday and informed that, according to a first assessment, the value of the damage caused by the explosion amounts to over 400,000 euros.
