Education and Research Minister Daniel David said on Monday that the 2025-2026 school year would probably start on 8 September with a boycott.

He told Antena 3 private television broadcaster there could be segments with different attitudes on the first day of school, as no one knows the magnitude of the protest process, in the context of teaching staff dissatisfaction with the reform measures involving the increase in the teachers' workload, agerpres reports.

David said that people must understand that Education entered the first measure package meant to recover from the budget-fiscal crisis, as the measures had to be enforced by the beginning of the school year, because Education needed support and development.

At the same time, he mentioned that Romania has over 400 8th grade classes nationwide with one, two, three, four and up to seven pupils in a class, situations that are not normal.
