The education unions are inviting teaching staff and school inspectors to take part in the rally and march organised on Monday by the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education and the 'Spiru Haret' Federation of Education Unions.
'We invite you to join our actions, not to stop colleagues who wish to express their concerns democratically, and not to threaten those who on Monday want to participate in the rally and march organised by the union federations. Everyone marching through the streets of Bucharest will also be doing it on your behalf. Let's show together that the education system is united in the face of measures that undermine its very foundation," the trade union organisations says in a press release.
The unions argue that the new legislation, adopted without genuine consultation or a serious impact assessment, has created a number of problems.
'The increase in teaching workload, the merging of educational institutions, the larger number of pupils per class, and not least, the increased teaching obligations for directors and inspectors - all of these are burdens we carry together, even if from different perspectives. (...) Our message is clear: the fight of the union federations is not a fight against directors or inspectors. On the contrary, it is a fight for an education system that is healthy, predictable and properly funded, a system in which each of us - teacher, director, inspector - can carry out their work with professionalism and dignity. We are convinced that the measure to increase the teaching obligations for directors and inspectors entails a much greater effort for those holding these positions, and it is essential that we fight together for the repeal of this anti-education measure.' the trade union organisations added.
