The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, who is currently visiting the USA, on Tuesday met, at the White House, with Michael Kratios, President Donald Trump's science advisor and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
"We discussed the manner in which we systematise science in Romania and the US, and I presented the new reform of the national research-development-innovation system. I was grateful for the availability of the American side to support us with experts, while emphasising Romania's competitive advantages in the science and technology fields, especially with such projects as the ELI-NP (the laser-driven nuclear physics project located in Magurele) and Danubius-ERIC in mind, which could raise the interest of the US, while also emphasising the formal collaborations that already exist between the ministry and the National Science Foundation, which we want to expand," Minister David told a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
He also presented the new research infrastructures, within which "close" collaboration with American scientists and American industry is desired, such as Artificial Intelligence, energy, especially based on hydrogen and nuclear energy, semiconductors.
"We also discussed the role of research in the defence system, considering the various international challenges we are facing today. Last but not least, we analysed the role of science in modern society and how we can deal with pseudoscience," Daniel David added, according to the said press release.
The Romanian delegation also included the Romanian ambassador to the US, Andrei Muraru, the rector of the National University of Political Science and Public Administration (SNSPA), Remus Pricopie, as well as members of our country's diplomatic mission overseas. Other government experts from OSTP also participated on the American side.
